Description
The tekke in Blagaj is located at the source of the Buna River, not far from the center of Blagaj near Mostar. It represents a valuable sacral and residential building of Islamic architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with very pronounced features that resulted from the influence of the Baroque on Ottoman architecture.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the name tekke is usually used, although the names of zavij and hanikah also appear, in a slightly modified meaning. There were several dervish orders in Bosnia and Herzegovina and they spread throughout its territory, so at that time there was not a single larger place that did not have at least one tekke.
