Description
The Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque in Mostar was built in 1618. It is located along the left bank of the Neretva River, which gives it a special ambience and makes it one of the most recognizable symbols of Mostar. The mosque was built by Koski Mehmed Pasha, defterdar of Lal Mustafa Pasha Sokolović, and is characterized by its high dome and elegant minaret.
The interior of the mosque is richly decorated with calligraphic inscriptions and floral and geometric motifs, while from its courtyard visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Old Bridge and the old part of the city. During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque suffered significant damage, but it was restored and today it again serves as a place of prayer and a tourist attraction of the city.
