Members of the Mostar Citizens’ Initiative organized a pilot tourist tour “Roads of invisible Mostar women”, which symbolically visited places that mark the generation of women who lived, studied, worked, created in that city. With this, they wanted to valorize their strong, but often insufficiently researched and emphasized contribution to the social community.
From the monument to Queen Katarina Kosač through the Gymnasium, Sports Center Kantarevac, Ćorović House, Abrašević, to the Cantonal Court is a route that connects all the women of Mostar because they used to work, study and create in those buildings.
For example, sisters Bergman, Smilja Mučibabić, Jasna Kolar and many other revolutionaries are rarely talked about in their jobs today. Even if they lived in this time, their engagement would go beyond established frameworks, so it is very surprising that they are still invisible to new generations and government structures.
“The city of Mostar and it as an urban environment or whatever environment you want – were shaped by women. You know that out of 65 streets in Mostar, only two streets have two queens. I really have nothing against queens, in fact, but we have our own queens who have succeeded in their work and it is worth mentioning”, says Ifeta Ćesir-Škoro, director of the Mostar Citizen Initiative.
Although no one doubts that women are excellent operatives and that they successfully balance business and private life, often this is not enough. In general, there are few women in government, in managerial or other positions. The initiative of the citizens of Mostar sees this project as a tourist tour so that the public can learn more about the women who paved the way for all of us.
“Here is a fantastic combination that I liked in this project. Therefore, science, connecting science, connecting personalities, sights and institutions with the personalities of the city of Mostar”, points out Elvira Dilberović, Acting Director. director of the Tourist Board of Mostar.
It is important that this project be organized through mobile applications, in order to improve and make the tourist offer of the city of Mostar more visible. It is not only the Old Bridge and the old city center.
