On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, in cooperation with the Via Dinarica project, officially opened the educational and thematic trail “Park of the Slavs” in Rujište. In front of numerous citizens and visitors, the event was marked by a rich program and speeches by prominent officials.
Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, Elvira Dilberović, emphasized the commitment of the Tourist Board to the revitalization of this popular picnic area and pointed out that this trail is the first step in a series of future projects. “The opening of the ‘Park of the Slavs’ represents our commitment to improving the tourist offer of Mostar and its surroundings. This is just the beginning of a series of activities that we plan to implement in Rujište”, said Dilberović.
Salem Marić, President of the City Council of the City of Mostar, then addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance and support that the City Council provides to the Tourist Board in the construction of tourist infrastructure. “The development of such projects is extremely important for our city. We are proud to support initiatives that contribute to the tourist and economic progress of Mostar”, said Marić.
Director of the Regional Office of the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH), Božena Kaltak, thanked the Italian Development Agency, the financier of this project, and pointed out the importance of the development of the Via Dinarica trail and the role of Bosnia and Herzegovina in it. “Via Dinarica is recognized at the global level as one of the best examples of sustainable tourism development. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a key role in this initiative, and the ‘Park of the Slavs’ is a great addition to that story,” said Kaltak.
After the introductory speeches and the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the citizens went on a tour of the new two-kilometer trail, which provides a unique blend of natural beauty and educational content on Slavic mythology. The gathering continued with a portion of traditional beans and DJ music, while the youngest visitors were given themed coloring books.
This event marks the beginning of a new era in the tourist offer of Mostar and its surroundings, with a focus on sustainable development and promotion of cultural and historical heritage.
The Via Dinarica project is implemented and co-financed by UNDP BiH with the financial support of the Agency for Development Cooperation of the Republic of Italy (AICS).
