World Tourism Day with the message - "Tourism and sustainable transformation"

The Tourist Board of the city of Mostar joins the global celebration of the World Tourism Day on September 27, whose theme this year is "Tourism and sustainable transformation". The theme highlights the growing movement towards more thoughtful and responsible travel, and reminds that tourism is not only an economic branch, but also a powerful driver of social progress.

"World Tourism Day 2025 highlights the transformative potential of tourism as a driver of positive change. Realizing this potential, however, requires more than growth alone. It requires good governance, strategic planning, strong oversight and clear prioritization that is aligned with long-term sustainability goals."

Tourism is more than an economic sector – it is a catalyst for social progress, providing education, employment and creating new opportunities for all. In order to fully realize these benefits, a thoughtful and inclusive approach is necessary that places sustainability, resilience and social equality at the center of tourism development and decision-making,'' said the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which started celebrating this day in 1980.

The city of Mostar, with its unique cultural and historical heritage, is an example of a destination that is developing in the direction of sustainable and responsible tourism. The Tourist Board continues to encourage projects and initiatives that preserve natural resources, promote cultural diversity and allow all citizens to feel the benefits of tourism.

On this day, representatives of the Tourist Board of the city of Mostar laid flowers on the grave of Milij Bijavica, the former owner of Fortuna Tours doo, one of the leading travel agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who died in 2020. For years, Bijavica promoted Mostar in the world, but also the whole of Herzegovina, highlighted its natural beauty and managed to put this region on the tourist map of the world.

Also, TZ GM, in cooperation with Mostar High School and UWC Mostar, and in order to mark the World Tourism Day, will organize a tourist tour so that the students can get to know the cultural and historical sights of Mostar. The director of TZ GM will meet the students in front of the Gymnasium building and give a short address, and then the students will have a two-hour tour of the City in the organization of TZ GM, accompanied by licensed tourist guides. The event is planned for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

We invite all visitors and citizens to build the future of tourism in Mostar together - tourism that respects people and the environment, and that contributes to a better quality of life in the community.
