The Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, Elvira Ćemalović, held a working meeting with representatives of the Herzegovina Mountain Rescue Service Mostar and the Mountain Rescue Service Stanica Mostar, with the aim of improving cooperation in the field of safety and development of active tourism.
The meeting was attended by Mihovil Čuljak, representative of HGSS Mostar, and Nadine Kevelj on behalf of GSS Mostar. Both services informed the representatives of the Tourist Board about the current situation and the challenges they face in their daily work.
It was pointed out that both services have professional and educated staff and operate according to the valid Rulebook on training for mountain rescuers. However, they face a number of problems, the most pronounced of which are financing challenges, which is why they are often forced to participate in various projects to ensure basic conditions for work.
Additionally, attention was drawn to the fact that both services operate in inadequate premises, which do not meet the conditions for storing equipment obtained through projects. They also lack the classroom space necessary for the implementation of ongoing education and training that they provide.
The meeting also discussed the recently adopted Law on the Mountain Rescue Service, which was adopted by the Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County. It was agreed that in the coming period, a joint presentation of the Law would be organized so that all relevant stakeholders in the sector of these activities would be timely informed and involved in its application.
Special emphasis is placed on the importance of preventive action and education, which represent the basis of safety for all visitors who decide to stay in nature.
Ćemalović emphasized the importance of establishing closer cooperation with the rescue services and launched an initiative for joint action in the field of education related to the tourism sector. As a sign of support, the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar allocated a one-time financial aid in the amount of 2,000 KM for each of the rescue services - Herzegovinian mountain rescue service Mostar and Mountain rescue service Stanica Mostar.
The Tourist Board of the City of Mostar will continue to actively work on the development of safe and sustainable tourism and support those who, through their work, contribute to the safety of citizens and visitors to Mostar and the wider region.
