Description
The Karađozbeg Mosque in Mostar is one of the most important and famous mosques in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was built in 1557 and is considered a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans. The mosque was built by Mostar's patron Mehmed-beg Karadjoz. It was built according to the designs of Mimar Sinan, the most famous architect of the Ottoman era.
The features of the mosque include a large dome, a spacious prayer hall, a towering minaret, and richly decorated details. It is located in the center of Mostar, not far from the Old Bridge, which makes it a key part of the city's cultural and historical landscape. The mosque suffered significant damage during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but was later rebuilt and today it is again active as a place of prayer and a tourist attraction.
