Beyond Borders – Digital nomads arrive in Mostar
Five international digital nomads, content creators and remote professionals will be visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro this month, exploring the potential of rural and lesser-known destinations. Their arrival is part of the STAR Rural Residency program, which connects the tourism and development potential of the two neighboring countries through cross-border cooperation and support from the European Union.
As part of the program, September 24, 2026 at 1 p.m. in Code Hub Mostar will be held meet-up "Beyond Borders: Digital Nomads Stories", where international participants will share experiences of living and working remotely and talk about what contemporary digital nomads are looking for from a destination.
The event is intended for tourism workers, accommodation providers, representatives of institutions, and freelancers and remote control workers. Participants will have the opportunity to get a concrete insight into what digital nomads consider key prerequisites for life and work: from infrastructure and working conditions to the quality of the local offer, and what are the most common mistakes that destinations make when developing their offers for this target group.
STAR Rural Residency Program
The program is part of the STAR project, which is implemented within the framework of the IPA III CBC program Bosnia and Herzegovina - Montenegro 2021-2027, with financial support from the European Union. The goal of the project is to develop new tourism content, promote rural areas and increase the visibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro on the international tourism market through joint activities of partners from both countries.
Digital nomads represent an increasingly important target group in tourism – people who are not just traveling for a few days, but are looking for destinations where they can stay longer, work and get to know the local community.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro have significant potential for this form of tourism: from natural beauty and mountain areas to rich culture, authentic lifestyle and opportunities for outdoor activities.
Connecting these potentials through cross-border cooperation is one of the values of the STAR project. By exchanging experiences and promoting them together, the two countries can position themselves as an attractive region for slow travel, remote work and longer stays for international guests.
The following are participating in the fall edition of the STAR Rural Residency program:
- Matan Hirsch photographer and visual storyteller with four years of experience working remotely around the world.
- Lynn Peck founder of the initiative Montenegro Made Easy, focused on developing sustainable and affordable tourism for the British market.
- Marco Sison author and veteran of nomadic life with more than 12 years of experience in slow travel concept.
- Daniel Zeilinger mentor and organizer retreat program that combines remote work with spending time in nature.
- Elise Michaels an entrepreneur and content creator who has traveled to more than 40 countries transmitting authentic cultural stories.
From September 15 to October 15, they will get to know local communities and destinations and share their experiences with an international audience.
Recognizing this potential, INTERA Technology Park provides the key infrastructure for remote working and regional networking. Through Code Hub Mostar, the first coworking space in Herzegovina, it has been gathering and hosting international digital nomads for years.
