The Tourist Board of the City of Mostar and the City of Mostar launched an initiative that aims to create a common platform for tourist guides, for better organization, exchange of ideas, suggestions and experiences, and improvement of tourism in Mostar. At a meeting with tour guides who face numerous challenges in their daily work, Elvira Ćemalović, director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar and Mario Kordić, Mayor of the City of Mostar, sent a clear message about the importance of cooperation for the further development of Mostar as one of the most important tourist destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“You have a partner in the Tourist Association of the City of Mostar, and with this initiative we want to show that we care about putting things in order. You are the foundation of tourism and ambassadors of Mostar, and with you we want to create an area that will be better organized and of better quality than what Mostar is today,” Ćemalović said.
The city of Mostar is actively working on the development of tourism management tools, including the “Mostar Pass” project and numerous other guidelines. It was emphasized that tourist guides are key partners in this process, and the City of Mostar has the ambition to develop into an orderly and systematic tourist destination, comparable to other European cities.
“We are ready to continue the next step together with our partners, and I see tourist guides as partners, so that one day we can have a well-organized tourist city. Given your direct contact with tourists, it is time for you to get involved in making important decisions. My obligation is to create a framework for you, your obligation is to group together and present your ideas,” said Mayor Kordić.
During the meeting, the guides highlighted key challenges they face, including the problem of the lack of communal stewards and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to resolve irregularities in the old city center. They also expressed concerns about the work of unlicensed foreign guides, as well as problems with permits and security issues, such as pickpockets, which negatively affect the image of the city.
The guides welcomed the initiative of the City of Mostar and the Tourist Board, expressing their desire to work together to create clear guidelines that will improve the quality of services and protect the interests of all tourism stakeholders.
This initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening the tourism infrastructure of the City of Mostar and raising the quality of services provided by tourist guides. By introducing new guidelines and regulations, the Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, in cooperation with the relevant institutions, plans to facilitate the work of tourist guides and enable better promotion of Mostar as an attractive tourist destination.
