In response to the fires that have engulfed the Fortica area above Mostar in recent days, representatives of the Mostar City Tourist Board held a working meeting with representatives of the Scout Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at which they agreed to donate 2,000 munica seedlings for the purposes of reforesting the burned area.<\/p>\n
The director of the TZ of the City of Mostar, Elvira \u0106emalovi\u0107, and the coordinator of the Boranka BiH project, Rijad Gosto, took part in the meeting. The agreed donation will be realized as part of the autumn activities of the volunteer campaign Boranka, whose first project in Bosnia and Herzegovina will cover the burned areas of Fortica.<\/p>\n
Boranka is a multi-awarded regional initiative dedicated to the restoration of forests that died in fires, which is implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Scouts in cooperation with the Croatian Scouts' Association. The project has been gathering thousands of volunteers for years in Croatia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, and since this year it has been active in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.<\/p>\n
"Our goal is to encourage positive changes through the BORANKA.BA project, empower local communities, and work to protect the environment through the reforestation of burned areas. Each tree planted symbolizes hope, renewed life, and commitment to the sustainable future of our region," said the Federation of Scouts of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
Director \u0106emalovi\u0107 emphasized that the Mostar City Tourist Board will continue to support initiatives that contribute to nature conservation and the inclusion of the local community:<\/p>\n
"We believe that responsibility towards nature and the community must be an integral part of every sustainable development strategy. With the donation of seedlings, we want to actively contribute to the restoration of the Fortress and the preservation of the natural landscape, which is of exceptional importance for Mostar. Also, the Tourist Board is aware of the negative CO\u2082 footprint that tourism leaves on the community, and in its plan and program of action, it has committed itself to, according to its capabilities, regularly support the reforestation actions of the city of Mostar in order to reduce the negative consequences".<\/p>\n
